In 2016, the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board recognized the collaborative vision of a diverse group of partners and interests in the Harney Basin with a $1.6 million Focused Investment Partnership grant to the High Desert Partnership and partners to support development and implementation of shared goals for the basin.
While the partners do not always agree on every idea, process or project, they all agree that a better scientific understanding of the natural dynamics in the basin will help both public and private land managers as they struggle to balance the need to provide waterbird habitat with ranchers’ need for nutritious forage for livestock.
