Get Involved
Wetlands are everywhere and complete ecosystems that make for the ultimate outdoor classrooms. Spending time in wetlands is the best way to get to know their value, so The Wetlands Conservancy aims to bring people into the field as often as possible! The complexity of these lands has something for everyone - whether your curiosity peaks with birds, medicinal plants, the nitrogen cycle, urban planning, or just playing in the mud.
In the Portland metro area, we are surrounded by wetlands. Many remain hidden or off limits - somewhat due to misguided notions of “orderly” natural beauty and somewhat due to habitat safety concerns - but once you know what to look for, you’ll start to notice wetlands everywhere. It is our goal to help you find them!
Volunteering with The Wetlands Conservancy is immersive and educational. It’s an opportunity to connect with other naturalists, hobbyists, and service-minded folks in the community. We host small stewardship events throughout the late spring and early winter, community science opportunities during the early spring and fall, and community activities all year round.
