Oregon Wetlands
Why we care about Oregon’s Wetlands
From estuaries to high desert lakes, wet prairies to mountain fens, enhanced wetlands to wastewater treatment wetlands, Oregon’s wetlands are both diverse and contribute to life cycles beyond our human-created borders. Our local wetlands play a critical role for migrating birds on their thousand mile journey from Alaska to South America; salmon migrating all over the Pacific Ocean bring their life-giving nutrients to inland ecosystems, but not without tidal wetlands; and the freshwater cycling from rains and snow to rivers to ocean is cleaned by wetlands everywhere. Local wetland action has a global impact on our water and those that rely on it, including us.
